Get to Know… Mathieu R. Lafrenière


Mathieu grew up in the St. Boniface region of Winnipeg. He is very involved in the community working as a volunteer coach, sitting on the Board of Directors of the Aulneau Renewal Centre, and staying active in politics. Though he was born and raised in Winnipeg, he has family ties to the communities surrounding Steinbach.


Mathieu graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Manitoba in 2009, he majored in Philosophy with a minor in Religion. He then graduated from the University of North Dakota Law School in December 2013.

While in Law School, Mathieu helped with the creation of two student organizations, the North Dakota chapter of the American Constitution Society as well as the creation of the first ever Canadian Law Students Society, an organization designed to help Canadians studying in the United States as well as when those students make their transition back to Canada.


Mathieu’s passions are sports and politics. He plays multiple sports, though his favourites are golf, softball and curling. He has also coached high school basketball for 8 years, including leading the College Louis-Riel Junior Varsity girls to the Provincial Finals in 2015. Mathieu started volunteering on political campaigns at the age of 11 and has worked on every federal campaign since.matthieu-lefreniere-small-300x450
